چکیده

Optical Burst Switching (OBS) aims to provide higher utilization and greater flexibility at a lower cost and reduced complexity than current optical circuit switched networks. We introduce a new routing protocol for Optical Burst Switching, Shortest Path Prioritized Random Deflection Routing (SP-PRDR), that aims to lower burst loss probabilities while only using limited state information from traditional Internet Protocol technologies. We show, through analysis and simulation, that loss in OBS networks is significantly reduced by SP-PRDR for loads that previously gave moderate or low losses in the unmodified case. In the simulation examples studied, by using SP-PRDR we are able to increase the input load by approximately 15–20% while maintaining a constant burst loss probability of 10−3. Additionally, unlike other schemes, we show that the worst case burst loss probability of SP-PRDR is provably upper-bounded by the burst loss probability of standard OBS. key words: optical burst switching, OBS, priority, routing, pre-emption

Deflection Routing Strategies for Optical Burst Switching Networks: Contemporary Affirmation of the Recent Literature

A promising option to raising busty interchange in system communication could be Optical Burst Switched (OBS) networks among scalable and support routing effective. The routing schemes with disputation resolution got much interest, because the OBS network is buffer less in character. Because the deflection steering can use limited optical buffering or actually no buffering thus the choice or de...

Performance comparison between Optical Burst Switching and Deflection Routing

Optical packet-switched networks of the near future will likely use no or very small number of optical buffers. We compare the delay-throughput performance of deflection routing and optical burst switching because both do not require the use of optical buffers. Simulations show that the simple packet drop-andretransmit contention resolution strategy of optical burst switching has a better perfo...

Deflection Routing in OBS Networks

Optical Burst Switching (OBS) network proposed as future optical internet is capable of carrying bursty traffic and adapting to the present technological constraints. Since the OBS network is buffer-less in nature, contention resolution using deflection technique received much attention. Deflection routing can work with limited optical buffering or even no buffering. This paper gives an overvie...

Prioritized Routing and Burst Segmentation for QoS in Optical Burst-Switched Networks

Deflection routing and burst segmentation are two techniques for resolving contention in optical burst-switched networks. By selectively applying these techniques to bursts with different QoS requirements, we can offer a range of differentiated services at the optical layer. c 2001 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (060.4250) Networks

Deflection routing-compatible wavelength assignment for

Photonic networks using Optical Burst Switching (OBS) emerged as an attractive choice for building the next generation Photonic Internet. In burst switched photonic networks, contentions caused by multiple bursts intending to use the same wavelength of the same link at the same time, remarkably increase burst dropping probability and degrade network throughput. As efficient contention resolutio...
